Ani Difranco, born Elisea Difranco on September 23, 1970, is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and activist. She began her music career in the late 1980s and has since released over 20 albums, combining elements of folk, punk, and jazz influences.
Difranco is known for her politically charged lyrics and her commitment to social and environmental activism. She has been involved in numerous social justice movements, including LGBTQ+ activism, feminist activism, and environmentalism. She co-founded the Righteous Babe Foundation, which supports social and community organizations.
In addition to her music and activism, Difranco is known for her unique playing style on the acoustic guitar, incorporating finger-picking and percussive techniques into her performances.
